The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most famous thoroughbred horse race, with tens of thousands of people from all walks of life joining in the carnival to partake in this world class event. The day encompasses the finest racing, fashion, food, culture and spectacular entertainment – a true celebration that stops the nation. So it was no surprise to me that G.H Mumm were front and centre at this spectacular event, not only having the most decadent marquee in the Birdcage, but this year opening a G.H Mumm dedicated flagship bar in the new Member’s Club Stand. They truly have made the red banner stand tall in the heart of Flemington and set themselves up as the house Champagne for the Cup Carnival.
Each year Mumm creates an underlying theme for their marquee. This year in particular was my favourite, even topping off last year’s impressive 59 foot luxury yacht. This year marks G.H Mumm’s 9th year in the Birdcage, and it was absolutely phenomenal to say the least. The theme was in honour of the Maison’s incredible innovation, the G.H Mumm Grand Cordon Stellar, a bottle created not only for space travel but to be enjoyed in zero gravity. After years of research including countless engineers, glass blowers, and champagne experts, they created a bottle to defy the laws of gravity and have again taken innovation to the next level. So how else would you celebrate this incredible achievement other than in an out of this world giant rocket ship? I was blown away with the team at G.H Mumm! They put on a party that no-one will easily forget. The Mumm Space Odyssey Marquee had it all – creative fusion canapes (all space themed of course), incredible live performances with a Mumm orchestra, beautiful space dancers to get the party going, an abundance of confetti poppers, Sabrage, Champagne Showers, and most importantly free flowing Champagne that kept everyone’s glasses full with Cordon Rouge or Rose. And all of this to be enjoyed as you watched the races on massive LED screens!
The two-storey marquee with the Mumm rocket ship out front stood tall in comparison to any other venue and as you walked in to trays of champagne, the Grand Cordon Stellar was on display for all guests to see. For a Champagne Lover like myself it was everything you hoped it would be. Speaking to Chris Sheehy and Kaitlyn Tremblay (AKA Champagne Kate) on the last day of the carnival, all Ambassadors for Mumm were front and centre of the entire carnival and beamed about the week they had over the Melbourne Cup carnival, truly proud of their team and their achievements, not only in the Marquee but in the new flagship bar and spreading the celebrations to all Mumm venues across Australia. I was even fortunate to have a cheeky glass of the RSRV Blanc de Blanc (one of my personal favourite Champagnes) with them to top off the day. I take off my hat to the Mumm team for presenting an incredible carnival. I can’t wait to see what they deliver next year as they continue to excel in everything they do!
